The fast bowling has been so impotent that they could claim only 16 wickets of 30 possible wickets in the last 2 tests and 10 of them came on the opening day of the series, with Siddle being the contributor with his six wickets. But his reputation has dimnished significantly and he hasnt managed one breakthrough in 54 overs bowled since then. Bollinger is more of a T-20 or a one day bowler, who cannot impress with his speed beyond 5 overs at a stretch. He was more of a work-man like than exceptional in the second test match. Ponting's experiment with Doherty failed miserably and the left-armer has taken just 3 wickets at 102. He could not cause any trouble to the batsman. My claim is that these 3 gentleman will surely find the axe.
I am sure that Hifenhaus, Harris and Johnson will eye for those 2 spots. But I would definitely want the selectors to have a look at Stuart Clark, who looked impressive in the last Ashes series played in Australia. Stuart Clark will definitely add expereince to the side.
Though the young leg spinner Smith's name has been a buzz for quite sometime, he is to prove his credentials as a test team man. Thus, Nathan Hauritz who has been a revelation atleast in home conditions with be the ultimate choice to spear ahead the spinning option.
As regards the batting options are concerned, replacing Katich will be the easy part, as this selection has been forced on to the selectors, since he has injured himself. Ponting will vye for Philip Hughes. As regards North is concerned, the selectors need to have him around for the simple reason that there are no immediate replacements available, who have got experience to handle Englishmen.
Ponting need to draw the Perth game by scoring heavily and opt for cramping Englishmen at Boxing Test or at Sydney. For this, he first need to perform as a batsman
Thus my suggested 12 for the Perth test will be as follows: Watson, Hughes, Ponting, Clarke, Hussey, North, Haddin, Johnson, Hauritz, Hilfenhaus, Stuart Clark, Harris
