Initial Assessment: Our initial
prediction has been that Australia, New Zealand, England and Sri Lanka will
make it to the quarter-finals.
Ups:
Though Afghanistan
has lost their two matches, their match against Sri Lanka was a tough fight. It
has been a great debut by them.
New Zealand
has been carrying their good work as expected and they are on top of the table.
Downs:
Sri Lanka ‘s
win against Afghanistan was a hard fought one. But for Jayawardne’s knock and
Perera’s late outburst, they would have found wanted.
England has
had a terrible time thus far and the team selection of having Balance, Root and
Taylor at the middle order does not give much balance to the team.
Verdict:
Though
England have fared badly till now, a win against Afghanistan and Bangladesh
will take them to 6 points for a chance to take them to quarter finals. With this, Australia, New Zealand, England and Sri Lanka would quality

Initial Assessment: Our initial
prediction has been that India, Pakistan, South Africa and W.Indies will make
it to the quarter-finals.
Ups:
India has
had a terrific run and their win against South Africa might have surprised this
team as well. Ireland chasing 300+ against West Indies have given them some
impetus into the tournament.
Downs:
‘Chockers’
tag keeps South Africa in an embarrassing situation.
Pakistan’s
loss against West Indies have surprised many and with NRR as bad as -2.260,
they need a miracle to stay afloat.
Verdict:
Three teams
will be in the fray for the quarter final knock out, as these teams might end
up with 6 points each. Only 2 of these teams will qualify for the
quarter-finals, as India and South Africa will go as per plan.
-
If W.Indies loose to South Africa and India, but
win against UAE and Zimbabwe, W.Indies can march ahead to the Quarter finals
with 6 points, provided their NRR is not dented.
-
If Pakistan looses to South Africa and win
against Ireland, Zimbabwe and UAE, a huge margin of victory against these 3
teams should not only earn them the 6 points, but can also take them to quarter
finals. For this, their batting lineup must change.
-
If Ireland wins against UAE & Zimbabwe and
manages their NRR against India, SA and Pakistan, then Ireland will get 6 points.
With this, India, South Africa, W.Indies, Pakistan/Ireland will qualify to the Quarter Final stages.
