We chose four reasons to be critical of this match -
(a) The return of a strong and an aggressive leader in Clarke to captain the side
(b) The absence of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar for the 1st two test matches and India’s bowling weakness continues
© The bowling unit of Aussies is far more superior and experienced.
(d) They would like to win this series as a tribute to Hughes – their emotions will be certainly running high.
All points were in favor.
But it was in the form of couple of dubious decisions and a spurt of late suicidal attempts by India, that finally tilted in the favor of Aussies, which otherwise could have had the match drawn.
Overall, I would still rate as India's better run chase but which did not get executed this well in the end. Thanks to not choosing Jadeja/Raina, the late middle order wobbled under pressure on both the innings.
Yet, nothing should take away the performances of 2 special batsmen in this match. Kudos to Murali Vijay and Virat Kohli who on both occasions held their innings together.
India should act together in terms of team selection - Can Shikar Dhawan still continue at the top? Should you have a bowling all-rounder in Jadeja are the questions that the Team Management should be asking themselves ahead of the 2nd test match.
With Dhoni around the corner for the 2nd test match, will India slip to its traditional approach? Let us be aware that even Dhoni will be under pressure to perform.
Overall, a very interesting battle ahead...
