India passes muster against Afganisthan

I was first surprised to see the selection of the team - The ball was stopping and coming during the Ireland-Australia match and still India went with three pedestrian fast bowlers who could have been mauled by a better batting team. That 32 runs were scored off Zaheer in just 3 overs with no variations coming from the veteran clearly defies logic.

I thought India should have added extra spinner to their forte instead and that would also have made Harbhajan to come back to form. Knowing Dhoni, I wont be surprised if he walks with the same team against England on 23rd  Sept.

It high time Sehwag and Gambhir does a talking with their respective bats. Even in T-20, they are seen playing away from the body and they both were vulnerable against fast bowling. The ever dependent Kohli had to again to some rescue act. This is the main reason I am not backing India to reach the Semis. On paper India looks good but on the field, it is a completely different story.

I only wish Dhoni had one more bowler in the likes of Ashwin. Man, this guy has been splendid and he has been the main bowler who put the brakes on this batting line up. That he accounted for the dangerous Md. Nabi at the crucial moment, did India in. To me, the Indian spinners controlled the Afganisthan attack with aplomb. That 5 wickets were taken between 2 spinners at the cost of 44 runs speaks volumes of the performance of Yuvaraj too, the comeback man!!

Dropping Zaheer and making Piyush Chawla play for the next game could be an ideal situation for Dhoni to make early inroads to the England XI. Ashwin can always open the innings for the 1st over only.
