World Cup enters into an interesting phase

At last, England could battle out the fatigue and the ill-luck that was travelling with them since their arrival to India for this World Cup. Their victory over West Indies was the best thing they could get after 25 days of intense struggle in each of the pre-quarter final match. But their struggle has not come to stop as yet as they need to wait for the clash of South Africa and Bangladesh on Saturday and once South Africa eases past Bangladesh, then they can be proud owners of one of the entrants to the Quarter-finals.

But, we will also need to see if each of the sub-continent teams vanish in each phase, like what Bangladesh will face in the pre-Quarter phase....

Where will India go from here? Whom will they meet? Where will they meet? What are the assumption factors?

Scenario - 1
This is analysed based on some assumption factor
Assuming SA will win against Bangladesh. This South Africa win could also mean that match between India and W.Indies are nothing but mere formality. But yet, in hindsight, India should breeze past W.Indies.
On the Group A front, assuming that Sri Lanka should get past New Zealand and the same applies to Australia against Pakistan.

Given this situation, Group A and B rankings will be as follows
Group A
Points
Group B
Points
Australia (A1)
11
South Africa (B1)
10
Sri Lanka (A2)
9
India (B2)
9
New Zealand (A3)
8 (higher NRR)
England (B3)
7
Pakistan (A4)
8
W.Indies (B4)
6

In this case,

  • (a)    A1 will meet B4 at Dhaka
  • (b)  A2 will meet B3 at Ahmedabad
  • (c)    A3 will meet B2 at Dhaka (India will meet New Zealand)
  • (d)   A4 will meet B1 at Colombo

Scenario - 2
This is analysed based on some assumption factor

In Group B, We are not taking away the win of South Africa against Bangladesh nor are we taking away Indians win over W.Indies. .
On the Group A front, we will still assume that Sri Lanka should get past New Zealand but we will assume that Pakistan ends the winning run of 35 matches against Australia

Given this situation, Group A and B rankings will be as follows
Group A
Points
Group B
Points
Pakistan (A1)
10
South Africa (B1)
10
Sri Lanka (A2)
9 (Better Run Rate)
India (B2)
9
Australia (A3)
9
England (B3)
7
New Zealand (A4)
8
W.Indies (B4)
6

In this case,

  • (a)    A1 will meet B4 at Dhaka
  • (b)   A2 will meet B3 at Ahmedabad
  • (c)    A3 will meet B2 at Dhaka (India will meet Australia)
  • (d)   A4 will meet B1 at Colombo

Scenario - 3

While we still assume that South Africa will win against Bangladesh, but we will see an upset win of W.Indes over India. and that on the Group A front, we will still assume based on Scenario -3 :Sri Lanka should get past New Zealand and that the Pakistan ends the winning run of 35 matches against to Australia
The win by W.Indies over India should be within 95 runs

Given this situation, Group A and B rankings will be as follows
Group A
Points
Group B
Points
Pakistan (A1)
10
South Africa (B1)
10
Sri Lanka (A2)
9 (Better RR)
W.Indes (B2)
8
Australia (A3)
9
India (B3)
7 (Better RR)
New Zealand
8
England (B4)
7

In this case,

  • (a)    A1 will meet B4 at Dhaka
  • (b)   A2 will meet B3 at Ahmedabad (India will meet Sri Lanka)
  • (c)    A3 will meet B2 at Dhaka
  • (d)   A4 will meet B1 at Colombo

Scenario - 4
We will still assume the outcome of result of Group B, as mentioned in scenario 3, but that on the Group A front, while we assume that Sri Lanka should get past New Zealand and that Australia continues its winning streak in the world cup
The win by W.Indies over India should be within 95 runs

Given this situation, Group A and B rankings will be as follows
Group A
Points
Group B
Points
Australia (A1)
11
South Africa (B1)
10
Sri Lanka (A2)
9
W.Indes (B2)
8
New Zealand (A3)
8
India (B3)
7 (Better RR)
Pakistan (A4)
8
England (B4)
7

In this case,

  • (a)    A1 will meet B4 at Dhaka
  • (b)   A2 will meet B3 at Ahmedabad (India will meet Sri Lanka)
  • (c)    A3 will meet B2 at Dhaka
  • (d)   A4 will meet B1 at Colombo.

Going by the above, let us pray a Scenario-1 situation: for India to meet New Zealand in Quarter-Final

Rounding up.. India has an opportunity to decide whom they want to meet in the quarter finals. they can either win or lose depending on sat's encounter. (Aus vs Pak)
