India surrenders meekly to a five-for from Perera

Massive win for the Lankans. The crowd and the entire team are ecstatic, after their dominant entry into the finals. This is the worst defeat for India in terms of the number of balls remaining, going past the one against Australia at Sydney in 1981, where they lost with 174 balls to spare. It was a perfect day scripted by and for the hosts, where, apart from losing the toss, everything they did, touched to gold. Perera's maiden 5-for helped his team to skittle out India for 103 and when Dilshan and Jayawardene started hammering the bowlers, it looked all too easy. Ishant gave some cheers to the Indian supporters with wickets off successive deliveries but ti was not enough to prevent a crushing defeat. The home side were already 63/0 at the mid-innings break and needed just 43 balls to knock off the remaining runs. Sri Lanka have now got 11 points and await the winner of the game between India and New Zealand on Wednesday.

India succumbed so meekly that Sri Lanka waltzed through to the tri-series final without breaking into a sweat. India, after slipping to their worst defeat in terms of balls remaining, face New Zealand on Wednesday in a knockout. Only Yuvraj Singh looked in any sort of control. He unfurled a couple of gorgeous drives - one was caressed through extra cover and the other sped away between the bowler and mid-off. He hit a stunning six over wide long-off but fell, given out lbw when a Lasith Malinga delivery not only hit him outside the off stump but was also missing it. And the lower order didn't last long - Ravindra Jadeja squeezed out to gully, Praveen Kumar fell to an over-ambitious hit, Ashish Nehra was bounced out, and Perera completed his maiden five-for when he bowled Ishant Sharma
