England starring defeat

The new look and rejuvenated Pakistan has more to celebrate - England looked down at the barrel at 221/9, after a comfortable position at 194/3 at the time of tea. This would mean England has a slender lead of 135, which will not be enough for this motivated team to be defeated. As mentioned in my previous column, if England is pushed to the wall, they have not been able to come out of this situation - The story read England, having lost 6 wickets for the last 26 runs - a familar sight.

There has been a lots of noise in and around the bat, motivating each other, which was absent in the whole of England tour. Suddenly, with the advent of 'players performance' policy, there has been a sea change with the attitude of Pakistani players.

The sellout crowd, which was clapping and joyously celebrating England gaining the upperhand when Cook was flowing for the first time this season on the way to his 13th Test century - and his most important - adding 116 for the third wicket with Jonathan Trott, England were on course to set a very testing fourth-innings run chase, but for all the failings of this current Pakistan team they still possess the ability to spark rapid collapses. Australia found that earlier this summer, while even in their two victories in this series England's batting has suffered swift losses.

This joyous crowd suddenly started to grimace before eventually falling silent. In the penultimate hour of the day, England lost six wickets with the A-team of Saeed Ajmal and Mohammad Amir playing destroyers-in-chief. Not for the first time Pakistan had pulled the rug from under the opponent's feet. With England scorecard reading at 194/3, Pakistan was again looking lost, and suddenly, when Peterson fell to a beauty from Ajmal, thinks started to be panicky for England. A tossed up on off stump by Ajmal to invite the drive, dipping and turning back in to disturb the off bail as a huge gap was left between bat and pad! Ajmal's been plugging away with plenty of variation, and he's picked up a second wicket, after having dismissed Anderson earlier.

Salman Butt, ensured that the next 15 overs were bowled only by Akmal and Aamer. Aamer made the ball old ball to reverse swing, with his clever use of the bowl, without showing the shiny part to the batsman, while running up to deliver. Trott had been so patient, almost three-and-a-half hours for his 36, but he's finally flung his bat at a wide delivery and he's paid the price. The ball was fuller, inviting the drive, but still quite wide and really should have been left alone. Trott lunged at it and sliced a catch straight to Azhar at gully. The score read 195/5.

Collingwood lasted only 10 balls for his 3.....and this one ball landed on a length quite wide of off and Collingwood tried to force it away through cover, but a hint of movement away through the air and some good bounce meant the ball took a thick edge straight through to the keeper, who made no mistake! Pakistan were on a roll! 202/6

Morgan lasted only 14 balls for his 5. ....and suddenly another variation ball rushed straight on from Ajmal, landing on off stump and zipping through a big gap between bat and pad in Morgan's defences. Morgan certainly didn't read the variation there, he played for turn where there was none 206/7

Next to go was the top scroer of the first inninga - Matt Priot. Amir lands one on off stump from round the wicket and gets the ball to kick away late towards the slips to take a thin edge through to Kamran. That was a great piece of quick bowling there, reminiscent of a certain Wasim Akram, delivered at high pace and reversing away late. And Kamran clings on to the chance! ....And Pakistan started smelling victory here -  England toterring at 210/8

Swann could not do when their top order batsman failer...It was a touch short and spun back quickly, cramping Swann for room as he tried to cut, he couldn't get a bat on it in the end and the ball crashed into middle stump. Pakistan were flying now! 220/9

Saturday could mark a special day for Pakistan. Their foot soldiers, the bowlers, have got them once again to the doorstep of victory....Pakistan poised for redemption!!
